Close Sky, Open Sky (Guest column by Rabbi Mindie Snyder)
March 7th was the first Global Heaven on Earth Day. Author and international management consultant, Martin Rutte (Chicken Soup for the Soul at Work and Project Heaven on Earth) reached out to his friends and shared that he would like his 75th birthday to have special meaning. So, he called for action around creating Heaven on Earth. People responded in many ways, such as: making charitable contributions, sharing love with family, and composing new music in honor of the day. At Sun Health, we have continued our conversations about Heaven on Earth during our Spiritual Cafes, exploring what it means for our community members, while working toward innovations of our own.
The opposite of Catastrophe…
Dear Heaven Maker:
‘Catastrophe’ is defined as, “a sudden and widespread disaster.”
Transformational leader Werner Erhard once asked, “What is the opposite of catastrophe?”
He invited readers of his magazine to send in their ideas.
The winner was the word ‘Benestrophe.’
Benestrophe, a sudden and widespread outbreak of goodness.
Imagine, now, an outbreak of benestrophe going viral across our entire planet.
We would experience:
Let’s play together
Dear Heaven Maker:
A friend of mine sent me this video and I loved it.
It moved my heart and Soul.
What if there’s no apology?
Dear Heaven Maker:
I found this quote a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been thinking a lot about it.
Clearly, there are people in our lives who we feel have wronged us.
Sometimes they apologize and ask for forgiveness. You may forgive them, or you may tell them what you need from them in order for you to forgive them.
BUT, what if someone has wronged you and is unwilling to apologize. You’ve asked and they’ve refused, or you’ve waited for it and it’s never come.
The Solutions Journalism Accelerator
Dear Heaven Maker:
Our world has certainly had more than its share of bad news lately.
The bad news has made us hungry for good news. We want balanced journalism that also gives us concrete examples of what is working in our world.
I’m not talking about fluff stories about cats playing, or dogs singing, but stories about people who are actually making a difference, stories that shine a light on the goodness of people, stories that inspire and give hope. These stories do exist and they are being reported on as part of a new, emerging trend in journalism called Solutions Journalism.
11 Pieces of Advice
Dear Heaven Maker:
What do you give an eleven-year-old for their birthday?
My friend Peter Rukavina has a new partner with an eleven-year-old child.
Peter’s gift was a tiny, handwritten, hand-bound book, with eleven pieces of advice.
I loved each one of them.
I found the advice useful for me and for people of any age.
Thank you Peter for being a Heaven Maker.
Two simple things to help Ukraine
Dear Heaven Maker:
As war rages on in Ukraine, how can you make a difference?
That’s the question I asked myself.
I’ve come up with two answers. My intention is that one or both inspire you to take action.
Together, we can make a significant difference.
From 5,110,000 to 7,160,000…The First Annual Global Heaven on Earth Day.
Dear Heaven Maker:
This past Monday, March 7th, was The First Annual Global Heaven on Earth Day.
And what a success it was.
At 12:01am on March 7, I went to Google and entered “Heaven on Earth” 2022. I got 5,110,000 results.
At 11:25pm on March 7th, I went to Google, entered the same phrase and got 7,160,000 results – a 40% increase, in one day. I couldn’t believe it, checked it four times, and got the same result.
We are making Heaven on Earth the new story of what it means to be a human and what it means to be Humanity. Thank YOU!
11 slides for March 7th: The First Annual Global Heaven on Earth Day
Dear Heaven Maker:
Tomorrow, March 7, is The First Annual Global Heaven on Earth Day.
I’m inviting you to watch the video and come up with your own unique contribution to Heaven on Earth. It can be any action, small or large. Just have the intention that it is your direct contribution to Heaven on Earth.
Here are some suggestions:
• Create more Heaven on Earth in a relationship.
• Create more Heaven on Earth by promoting a value you want to see more of in the world.
• Contribute to ending the suffering that hurts you the most.
• Create more Heaven on Earth in an institution (Law, Science, Healthcare, Government, Media, Sports, Religion, Business)
• Declare your city, your state/province, or your nation, to be Heaven on Earth.
• Experience more Heaven on Earth at this moment.
Take a minute, right now, and write down what you’ll do. Make it simple, easy, and concrete. Make it something you know you will succeed at.
Please post about what you’ve done using #HeavenonEarthDay and make your post public so we can all see it.
The Sisters of St. Martha: Creating more Heaven on Earth
Dear Heaven Maker:
Two weeks ago, I shared with you the results of a Heaven on Earth course I did with a group of Catholic Sisters, The Sisters of St. Martha. In the video, the Sisters share what they got out of the course. You can see it here.
In this video, the Sisters answer this question, “What action will you take to create more Heaven on Earth in the world?”
You’ll hear a cascade of commitments that will inspire you to take your own action in co-creating more Heaven on Earth. Commitments such as:
