Like Moonlight Shining on a Lake

When I was 12 years old I fell in love with a recording of Rudolph Serkin playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
It was simple, direct, and pure. It had an on-going ‘line’ that was so quietly driven. The sonata got its name in 1832 when poet Ludwig Rellstab described the music as being ‘like moonlight shining on a lake.’

I’ve never forgotten that sonata.

A couple of month’s ago I came across another recording of the same piece but this time there was a visual component with it.

I was mesmerized. This time both my ears and my eyes were treated to this piece of brilliance.

Please enjoy this little piece of Heaven on Earth and share it with one or two people you think would enjoy it.
