Guest Column by Dawson Church
Here’s an exercise for you to do this very minute.
Write down 3 things you’re grateful for right now.
They don’t have to be giant blessings. One might be the breath you’re taking at this moment. Just the fact that you’re breathing means that you possess the precious gift of life.
Having eyes to see … love in your heart … a roof over your head … a safe place to sleep …
Every moment of every day is filled with things we can be grateful for.
Gratitude uplevels every part of your life. It improves your work life (Locklear et al., 2020) as well as your love relationships (Kurtz & Algoe, 2016). It makes you both happier (Toepfer, 2008) and healthier (Yoshimura & Berzins, 2017).
Positive emotions like gratitude build the neural circuits of happiness in our brains. Neurons that fire together wire together, and gratitude increases the size of those happiness bundles.
This stunning set of images is from a scanning electron microscope, and shows two neurons wiring together. On the left, in the circle, you see their dendrite “hands” far apart from each other. In the middle, they’re “shaking hands.” On the right, they’re completely intertwined.
How long do you suppose it took to create that new neural connection?
Just 12 seconds!
So spend 12 seconds making a gratitude list right now … and grow a positive neural circuit in your brain!
Gratitude is one of the characteristics of people who are great at manifestation. I call them “Master Manifestors.”
