Eckhart Tolle gives one of the finest explanations I’ve heard of where we, humanity, are in the continuing unfoldment of our human story.
The video begins with him being asked if the Universe made a mistake by having the ego. He answers with such beauty, grace and historical/spiritual perspective.
The ego, for Eckhart, is a step in the on-going evolution of humanity….a necessary and useful stage that we had to go through. The ego has given us much that is useful: language, science, etc., as well as ‘stuff’ that gets in our way: doubt, resentment, jealousy, shame, etc.
Because our human story is not static it continues to unfold, continues its evolution. We are now entering the next stage of human evolution in which the ego will no longer be needed.
He explains how this all ties into our memory and our longing for Paradise/the Garden of Eden. In my words….our yearning for Heaven on Earth.
Eckhart explains how we are now returning to the pre-egoic stage of consciously knowing our connection with The One, but, we’ve had the benefits that ego has brought us. We’re moving beyond ego to consciously knowing transcendent reality.
