Dear Heaven Maker:
I met a wonderfully powerful, present, woman at a conference this past Tuesday, where I was speaking about Heaven on Earth. It was at the Providence School of Transformative Leadership and Spirituality, at Saint Paul University, in Ottawa, Canada.
She is Nakita Bruno Green from the Caribbean nation of Dominica, currently in the US at Maharishi University of Management, working on her PhD in sustainable business.
During our conversation she told me that Dominica has a government ministry part of whose job is Climate Resilience. I’d never heard of anything like that before and I was intrigued and inspired.
On September 18, 2017, a category 5 hurricane devastated the country. The World Bank estimated the total damage at $1.3 billion, or 224 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product.
Less than a year later, there was a sense of hope and optimism. In one of the Caribbean’s most ambitious comeback efforts, the tiny country (population: 73,543) is making a bid to be the world’s first climate-resilient nation. The first mission of the new government Ministry was to determine best practices across every sector—roads, building codes, energy grids, water management—before enforcing them islandwide.
If Dominica is successful it will eventually be able to rebound from a Category 5 storm in a matter of weeks, not months or years…it will be climate resilient.
When I heard this I was so very, very impressed and inspired.
And then a thought popped into my mind. Would Nakita be willing to declare her home country, Dominica, a Heaven on Earth nation? I asked her and she said YES!
This is the interview I did with her just an hour after she said YES.
Thanks Nakita for being a Heaven Maker.
We now have a group of people all around the world who have made the same declaration for their own nations. Here are my interviews with two of them:
The key to making your Nation a Heaven on Earth Nation is to simply declare it, to commit to it…and then take one simple, easy, concrete, joyous step to making that real, and then another step, and then another and so on and so on. Small steps over time add up to big changes.
If you’re willing to make the declaration for you Nation, let us know.
Love,
Martin
